Ty grew up in West Texas in a house of educators, as both parents worked in school systems. As he grew older, he decided to follow in their footsteps becoming a coach and a teacher himself. “My granddad and father were both superintendents of schools, so working in and for the school system has always been a passion of mine. Then, I saw the income shortfall that both of them faced in retirement,” Ty said. “It floored me and made me realize how unprepared most educators are when it comes to financial retirement preparation. I wanted to fix the problem, which is how and why Gardner & Associates started.”
He also recognized the effect inflation had on his grandfather’s pension from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. “Inflation can eat away at income streams, even over the short term. Some retirees will need that money to last for 25 to 30 years or longer. I don’t want to see inflation rear its ugly head for any more educators.”
Now, Ty continues to have strong convictions and beliefs, valuing family and education as well as community spirit and togetherness. Always straight-thinking and West Texas-friendly, Ty’s goal is to spend as much time as he can instructing and supporting Texas educators through the retirement planning process. He believes he can help them make educated decisions on how to plan, accumulate wealth and retire confidently without having to depend solely on their TRS benefits.
